Urgent appeal: Have a Heart pensioners to be evicted

Owner of the building allegedly concealed the truth.

Marius Oelofse, the founder of the Have a Heart Care Centre is heartbroken and desperate.

After the City’s Housing and Health and Social Development Departments had caught wind of the building on Van Wyk Street being operated as a centre for the elderly, they ordered Oelofse to vacate it. Contrary to what the owner of the building allegedly had told Oelofse when he signed the lease agreement, it does not meet the requirements of the City’s regulations in terms of residential use – this after Oelofse had spent more than R80 000 to make it habitable.

The City has ordered Oelofse to vacate the premises by 30 January 2018. He is now in a race against time to find a home for the 29 state pensioners in his care. Have a Heart as an organisation will remain and continue to care for the pensioners, but each one of them now need lodging. He is appealing to residents who are willing to take in an elderly person to contact him.

Oelofse can be reached on 082 952 7151.
