Rugby legends walked among us

Danie Gerber was not the only rugby celebrity there.

Spending a night with the Toks & Tjops team is great, but if you throw rugby legends such as Danie Gerber into the mix, it sure is priceless.

Danie Gerber was not the only rugby celebrity there either. Toks van der Linde, Lappies Labuschagne, Alwyn Hollenbach and Julian Redelinghuys also graced the guests with their presence at the Ruimsig Country Club on Saturday 21 October.

Nick and Lauren de Klerk enjoyed the evening.

Hosted by the Hole-in-One Boutique Hotel, the Hoërskool Monument rugby team was congratulated on their phenomenal achievements on the sportsfield this past year.

Matt Stern was the master of ceremonies for the evening, and delighted the crowd with a few songs, while Mean Mr Mustard’s front-man, Mark Beling, sang a few trademark songs.

The gusty weather did not dampen the guests spirits as they started bidding on legendary items such as rugby memorabilia, rugby balls, framed, signed shirts and a variety of goodies one could take home at the winning auction price.

The Toks & Tjops team took their seats in their famous bamboo chairs and interacted with the guests, creating lots of laughter, and giving them a look into the life behind the scenes of rugby.

David Haarhoff and André van Loggenberg were excited to see their rugby heroes.

Guests got to see special footage in remembrance of Danie Gerber’s awesome career over the years. The footage of his light-footed, fast tries was phenomenal and the crowd roared in a standing ovation for Gerber’s achievements.
