Avoid Beyers Naude Drive near Zandspruit, JMPD warns

The illegal power connections to Zandspruit were disconnected after residents of Lazer Park complained about them.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the intersection of Peter Road and Beyers Naudé Drive near the Zandspruit informal settlement.

The warning follows protest action by the dwellers who are enraged by the disconnection of illegal electricity cables supplying the shacks.

City Power tweeted a photo of an illegally connected street light pole facing Beyers Naudé Drive which they removed.

Superintendent Wandile Mrubata from Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) warned motorists to discontinue travelling on the affected roads until the protest has been called off.

Mrubata said Peter and Bothma Roads, and Beyers Naudé Drive are the most affected routes.

“The illegal connections to Zandspruit were disconnected after residents of Lazer Park complained about them,” said Mrubata, adding that they are monitoring the situation.

Motorists have been urged to use alternative routes.
