Look Good Feel Better impacts cancer patients

Cancer patients were pampered with skin care and make-up products during a Look Good Feel Better workshop.

Patients undergoing cancer treatment had their day brightened up during a Look Good Feel Better workshop at Life Flora Clinic on 18 October.

The patients were invited by this charity organisation as it observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The ladies were treated to a programme which aimed at improving their beauty and building their confidence by offering beauty therapy treatment products and wigs to the patients. “We are assisting women during active treatment of cancer. The programme is non-medical but a great way for these ladies to interact with other patients undergoing cancer treatment,” said Ronelle Baars, the programme coordinator. She added, “We also address the side effects of cancer treatment.”

The attendees were given, and were pampered with, free beauty and skin care products sponsored by leading beauty brands. “All the products are sponsored by different cosmetic houses,” said Ronelle.

The products were divided into skin care and make-up. The skin care brands consisted of eye make-up remover, cleanser, toner, moisturiser, eye crème, concealer, foundation and blusher. The make-up products included eye pencil, eyeshadow, mascara, lipliner and lipstick.

Ronelle told the Northsider that the programme was started in America 20 years ago, by an oncologist who once told a patient to wear lipstick to feel better. She added that the workshop is held at Life Flora every month, but they also reach out to other hospitals, both in the private and public sector.

“You don’t have to be a Life Flora patient to attend this workshop, it’s open to any lady undergoing cancer treatment,” she emphasised, inviting more patients to the workshop.
