Pasta lovers celebrate #NationalPastaDay

Calling all pasta lovers! October is your chance to celebrate, as it is Pasta Month, with 17 October celebrated as National Pasta Day.

Pasta – a type of noodle – is a traditional Italian food, first referenced in Sicily in 1154. It is typically made from unleavened dough of made of durum wheat flour, water and eggs. It is then formed into sheets or various shapes. The cooked pasta is used in a variety of delicious dishes.

Pasta can be divided in two categories, fresh or dried. Fresh pasta was originally produced by hand, but many fresh pasta products are available in supermarkets and are being commercially produced by large scale machines.

– There are many varieties and shapes for both dried and fresh pasta.

– There are 310 specific forms of pasta that are known by various names – over 1 300 have been documented recently.

– Names of specific pasta shapes and types varies from locale to locale in Italy, for example, Cavatelli is known by 28 different names – depending on both the region and the town.
