Family pleads for the identification of suspects

A Witpoortjie family is appealing to the public to assist them in identifying four men who badly assaulted a member of the family and damaged his vehicle last weekend.

Michael Bentley, 18, was involved in a road rage incident that almost claimed his life on 30 September at the intersection of Hendrik Potgieter Road and Van der Kloof Street in Ruimsig, when his attackers allegedly beat him up with a baseball bat and left him for dead.

According to the family, the incident happened between 1 and 2.30am.

Speaking to the Northsider, a family member said Michael was struck so hard with the baseball bat that it broke. The broken bat was found in Michael’s car. The family member added that Michael was found by a passer-by lying outside his car bleeding to death. They said the passer-by managed to call an ambulance service and the police to the scene.

The matter is being investigated by police.
