The City of Johannesburg Public Safety Department (JPSD), welcomed the court ruling in the matter involving one of its JMPD officers taking a bribe.
Yesterday (5 October) JMPD officer Nkgoape Lydia Matsapola was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment or a fine of R5 000 for accepting a R100 bribe.

The 41-year-old Matsapola was found guilty of corruption for having accepted a bribe and failing to charge an undercover agent of the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit for driving without a valid licence disc. This incident occurred during a sting operation on 27 March 2016. She also received a five-year suspended sentence, on condition that she is not found guilty of a similar offence in future. In addition, the court found her unfit to carry a firearm. The case was heard in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.

JMPD will not tolerate any form of bribery and corruption. Members of the public are encouraged to report corruption on the JMPD anti-corruption hot line 0800 203 712, said JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.
