#PelserTrial: Results of handwriting analysis finally revealed

Currently, the security guard who was on duty at the complex on the night of the murder, Decent Kunene, is on the stand giving his version of the incident on the day in question.

The moment everyone in the Baby Deon camp has been waiting for finally arrived just before lunch.

After the Defence and the State had finished cross-examining detective Constable Motaung, the initial investigating officer (IO), it called Warrant Officer Lesejana, the IO who took over the case from Motaung.

Trial Day 4: #PelserTrial: Trial to continue today, but …

The State’s sole purpose was to question Lesejana about the findings of the handwriting analysis. After discussing the technicalities of the procedure surrounding it and the science involved, Lesejane read the report. In the final paragraphs, the forensic expert found that the specimens (taken from Marthinus Pelser after his arrest) matched the sample (the notes left in the so-called yellow book). The conclusion: Pelser wrote the notes of which one read, “I have done something terrible. Don’t look in the cot. Call the police.”

When the Defence questioned Lesejane, it seemed as if they attempted to prove that he failed to follow procedure, but Lesejane had followed the procedure to the T.

Trial Day 4: #PelserTrial: “If he could do that to a baby, [imagine] what would he do to us?”
