Bush taken down by active resident

The clean-up ran from 9.30am until 1.30pm on 1 October.

The overgrown bush along Jim Fouché Road, which was a security risk for Welview residents is now something of the past, because the Welview Residents Association led by its chairperson, Tana Cope, joined hands with the members of the community and embarked on a clean-up on 1 October.

The clean-up lasted from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

Cope said a plea to the community for help with the overgrown bush was made following a recent break-in at a property along the road. She added that the property is always targeted, so they decided to cut the down the bush that was providing a hiding spot for criminals.

“We had to close down one lane of Jim Fouché Road. Residents from the RA and I assisted with traffic control,” she said.

Most of the hard labour was done by Jonte Kinch from Tree Felling ZA and his team, who rendered their services for free.

“Jonte was so kind to offer his services,” said Tana gratefully.

Jonte is no stranger to assisting the community without requesting payment. Last month, he assisted the Honeydew Community Policing Forum to clean up a bush on Cornelius Street in Weltevreden Park that had become home to some normally homeless people.
