27 September is National Chocolate Milk Day, a day created to celebrate this ice cold chocolate drink loved by people of all ages!
Chocolate milk was invented by Hans Sloane in the late 1680s and can be purchased as a premix or it can be made at home using either cocoa powder and a sweetener or with melted chocolate, chocolate syrup or chocolate milk mix.
Sloane encountered cocoa while he was in Jamaica where the locals drank it mixed with water, but, when he tried it, it was reported that he found the taste nauseating. He found a way to mix the cocoa with milk to make it more pleasant-tasting.
Upon his return to England he brought the chocolate recipe back with him and now this delicious drink is enjoyed by people everyday.
