Community celebrates Heritage Day

Community enjoyed activities

A Heritage Day Festival recently took place at Princess High School, and community members attending the event were treated to a variety of activities.

“We offered people who make and bake goods the opportunity to display their wares by offering them a stall for free. This way, in our current economic situation, they had the chance to make some money,” said René Benjamin, the councillor for Ward 71.

Edith Moyo, Caroline Adams and Zanele Moloi.

“The festival was organised to allow community members the opportunity to have a fun day out,”

There were lots of other food stalls where festival-goers could enjoy dishes ranging from Indian food, chips, russians, to ice cream and yankees. Buyers could browse through the different goods on display which included knitted goods and Avon cosmetics.

The day was made even more special by a local resident, Christo Mostert, who provided music for the day. Other organisations that also joined in were NG Welfare, NG Church Culembeeck, Safe and Sound Community Safety, South Africa Against All Rape and Bambasani Home.

René and Richard Benjamin with Zander Fourie.

“We did not forget about the young ones, and offered loads of entertainment for them,” René said. “We had several live demonstrations and music performances during the day and Senpai Lesego and the Witpoortjie Karate Club students provided a demonstration on bullying and how the art of discipline and training allows for confidence-building, discipline and the ability to protect oneself. The crowd was also entertained by the energetic and infectious music provided by the Charisma Music Foundation Youth team,” she concluded.
