National Pancake Day

Enjoy some pancakes with butter and syrup on #NationalPancakeDay

26 September is the annual celebration of National Pancake Day, so make sure your batter is mixed, the griddle is hot and you have the butter and syrup ready!

Pancakes are also known as flapjacks or hotcakes.

The creator of National Pancake Day is unknown, making this an unofficial national day.

If you do not have time to enjoy pancakes for breakfast, don’t fret, because they make a great dinner as well! With the variety of toppings or fillings available, pancakes can actually be served any time of the day. Some fillings and toppings include fruit, jam, syrup, chocolate chips or meat.

Archaeological evidence suggests that pancakes are probably the earliest and most widespread breakfast food, as they were eaten in prehistoric societies.

To celebrate today, invite your friends and family and enjoy some pancakes or throw a pancake party! To make things interesting, go through your recipe books or browse the internet, and find a new recipe to try.

Or, you can try making pancakes with lemon and blueberry, banana, pecan and maple butter, apple sauce, buttermilk or pumpkin.

Take pictures of your creations and use #NationalPancakeDay to post on social media.
