Colour for cancer

Parents, learners, siblings and educators came out in their numbers for the Trinityhouse Little Falls colour run.

Trinityhouse Little Falls celebrated its second colour fun run this year, in aid of childhood cancer research.

Every year, the school chooses a different cause or charity to support. The event was started last year by Chloe Smith who was a prefect in Grade 7 and wanted to raise money as part of her contribution to the school.

Early next year, Chloe and her family have committed to running the Disney 5km race to raise money for the Scott Carter Foundation and they pledged to raise $1 000 for this cause. Scott Carter was a young boy who, at the age of 10 was diagnosed with bone cancer and sadly passed away at the age of 13. The family have continued his goal of raising enough money to find a cure for childhood cancer.

The main aim of this Colour Run was to raise money for this charity but the school surpassed its goal and wants to donate the balance of the money to The Rainbows and Smiles Foundation in South Africa, who support families with children suffering from cancer.

Although the colour run is a preparatory school initiative, some higher grade learners do get involved, as well as teachers, parents and siblings. All the children who ran the Colour Run were between the ages of 7 and 13, which was a fitting group of kids to help raise the money for children of similar ages in need.

There were many prizes to be won, including a BMW advanced driving course worth R5 500. The learners were also well-motivated to join in the colour fun as the class with the most entries would win a two-hour session at iJump and a pizza and slush at Panarottis.

Special thanks go to BMW Clearwater – with their financial contribution to the event, the colour run raised in the region of R35 000.
