Education that crawls and slithers

King's School West Rand exposes its learners to the wonders of nature.

The King’s School West Rand recently exposed its preschool learners to the wonders of nature through a reptile show.

Duwayne Smith from Party Animals SA showed the excited learners a variety of animals, such as the Australian stick insect, a bearded dragon, a Kenyan sand boa, and even introduced some mammals, including the chinchilla.

The show was just one of the many that have been presented throughout the year to further the learners’ education, and links to the curriculum. Duwayne introduced each animal to the youngsters and told them about their diet, habitat and even why they look the way they do.

“Its very important that the little ones discover new general knowledge and have an opportunity to touch and feel the animals in real life in a safe environment,” said Grade R teacher, Bernice Schoeman.
