Rotary provides free healthcare

Rotary Family Health Days will bring free health care to 120 sites throughout the country.

The fifth annual Rotary Family Health Days event will once again see free integrated health care services brought closer to communities.

The Rotary and Department of Health event will take place from 3 to 5 October and aims to bring free health services to a record 100 000 people at 120 sites/ areas across the country.

Rotary Family Health Days offer free health services and vital screenings to deprived communities. These include HIV counselling and testing; screening for TB, diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol; vitamin A supplementation, and immunisations.

Some of the sites will also offer drug and substance abuse counselling; information on SheConquers – a campaign for adolescent girls and young women; measles inoculation; polio drops; voluntary male circumcision services and healthy lifestyle education. Additional services will include optometry, dentistry, mental health and more.

None of this can happen without all the partners who donate their services and, importantly, the help of volunteers who give up their time to make a difference, and the Rotarians need all the help they can get at each of the planned sites across the country. If you would like to contribute to this event with its impressive track record, or get more information, go to www.rfhdsouthafrica.org, contact your nearest Rotary club, or find your nearest site by calling the National Department of Health’s helpline on 080 001 2322.
