Gauteng cops win big at national volleyball tournament

The Gauteng men's volleyball team scooped the following: best attacker, defence, setter and most valuable player at a national tournament in KZN.

 

The Gauteng male volleyball team, compromising police officers from various police stations in the province, emerged victorious at a national tournament held last week.

The week-long event was held in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

The squad, which featured officers from Honeydew Police Station, including the station commander Brigadier Anesh Maharaj and spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, scooped gold at the tournament against the KZN side with a 3–0 victory in the finals.

“We never dropped a set from the start of the tournament to the final. We made a clean sweep at the awards evening in KZN, taking best attacker, defence, setter and most valuable player,” said Muthan, who coached the Gauteng side.

Gauteng was also represented by a female squad which finished 4th overall.
