Rehabilitation work required in botanical garden

A low-level bridge in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden may soon be upgraded.

Remediation work is required at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.

The site of the work is situated on the banks of the Muldersdrif Se Loop River. The project entails the upgrade and rehabilitation of a single low-level bridge over the river, and several gabion structures along the river, which are collapsing.

Notice is given in terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (GN.R 982), promulgated under the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998, that South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is applying for an Environmental Authorisation (EA) for the proposed project.

Eco Resource Managers was appointed as an independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to facilitate the Environmental Assessment (EA) application and Stakeholder Engagement processes.

Parties that wish to formally register their interest in the EA application processes and to obtain more information as the processes continue are requested to forward their contact details to Ilke Nel, who can be contacted on 072 697 6266 or ilke2010@live.com.

The Draft Basic Assessment Report (BAR) will be available to all registered parties for review. This Draft BAR will be available for comment for a period of 30 days from 22 September to 22 October.

Copies of the Draft Basic Assessment Report and the Stakeholder Engagement Report, are available upon request from the Stakeholder Engagement Office.
