Crime escape route discovered in Little Falls

Criminals' escape route identified by local authority.

A proactive security company in the Little Falls and Strubens Valley area recently made a shocking discovery after losing perpetrators during a chase in a piece of open veld.

In the early hours of 17 September, at 1.05am, members of SRT Security thwarted a cable theft attempt during a patrol session. The patrollers were driving along Hendrik Potgieter Road when they noticed that a fence had been cut open on the corner of Cascades Road, near a motor dealership.

Maggie Bezuidenhout, the security company’s operations manager, said the members approached two men who started running across the veld. “Our officers exited their vehicles and started chasing them. Unfortunately, the veld assisted the suspects to get away,” she said.

It is understood that the suspects used the broken fence to make their successful escape.

Bezuidenhout added, “On their return, our officers noticed that someone had been trying to steal power cables.”

An EC security officer currently guarding the fenced piece of land said his company has been repairing the holes, which are reopened again by wrongdoers.

This week, the Northsider found that the cables next to the electricity box were still exposed.
