Watch: Raging house fire in Florida claims a life

74-year old owner dies in fire

A house fire in Alexandra Street in Florida, claimed the life of a 74-year old resident on the morning of 19 September.

According to Nick Dollman, the spokesperson for Netcare 911, reports of a house on fire were received at approximately 1.14am. “Security services placed the call for help and we were the first emergency service to arrive at the scene. Upon our arrival we found that the entire house was on fire. The large flames and damage were caused by an alleged explosion, and prevented safe access to the structure,” Dollman said.

Video footage of the fire was received by an eyewitness. See the video here:

He added that three fire-engines from the City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Services (EMS) arrived shortly after them and the firefighters attended to the blaze.

“It was later found that an elderly man, believed to be in his 70s, who was alone in the house, had died in the fire,” said Dollman.

Robert Mulaudzi, the spokesperson for EMS confirmed this incident and said, “We received a call about a house fire at approximately 1.30am and responded. Unfortunately the 74-year old occupant was inside the house when it caught fire and succumbed due to smoke inhalation.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown and will be investigated by local authorities.
