Baby Moses welcomes Spring

Lend a helping hand to Baby Moses

Baby Moses Child Sanctuary and their Bodibe Care Centre are flourishing. The North West centre recently opened two new classrooms and while it was planned for 24 toddlers, the centre already takes care of 37 little ones.

The funding of the classrooms and structural repairs of the centre was achieved with the help of the Reatile Foundation.

The care centre has effectively increased the number of Baby Moses beneficiaries by 33 per cent to 149, and the staff from 12 to 16.

In order to survive in the current economic climate, Baby Moses has cut budgets and expenditure year-on-year for the past three years. This has included the salaries of housemothers, and no increases for other staff. They have also followed a policy of not replacing those who have resigned (if possible), retrenched an office worker, and even planned to close and sell one of the homes.

When the sale of the house fell through, the help of one donor made it possible for the house to be kept. However, this has resulted in expenditure increasing by R18 000 a month to cater for the new centre.

This includes 4 new staff members, food for the children, stationery and school materials, transport and administrative costs. The centre still needs building materials for the Bodibe home – at least 8 steel window frames, 4 doors (2 external), cement, bricks and lintels.

Casual clothes, clothes for going out and school clothes are high on the priority list for children in Roodepoort and Krugersdorp. For a comprehensive list of the centre’s needs, contact 011 768 7600.
