Roodepoort Police responds to allegation of not wanting to open kidnapping case

No police station has right to refuse opening a case.

Roodepoort Police station commander, Brigadier Manala, has responded to allegations by a furious mother who is claiming the station refused to open a case of kidnapping she reported.

This comes after her 12-year-old daughter was taken by a stranger, without her permission, to Roodepoort Police Station for allegedly assaulting his daughter. In this case the law defines kidnapping as a child being taken without the parents’ permission. Senior State Advocate Deon van Wyk also said no station or police member has the right to refuse to open a case.

In an email Manala said, “The office has launched an internal investigation into the matter. A departmental misconduct has been registered against the members involved and the incident is under investigation for taking of necessary remedial steps”.
