Cable theft halted in darkness

Day-shift technicians alerted to the current outage caused by an attempted cable theft incident.

 

An attempt to steal power cables between Pierre and Henry Roads in Ruimsig was thwarted by a private security company in the early hours of today, 14 September.

According to Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott, who is also the MMC for Economic Development, the incident happened at 2am. The suspects were intercepted by Mafoko Security.

She indicated in a statement that the suspects managed to cut the cables resulting in a power outage in certain parts of the ward.

She added that City Power had been advised about the incident. “The day-shift team leader has confirmed that technicians are on their way.

I cannot confirm an estimated time of repair at this time as they will need to replace the cable,” she said.
