Confusion currently reigns, as none of the parents know whether the occupants of the Kombi involved in the accident that killed four teenagers, have survived or not.
Initially, the parents of the De Silver twins were informed that both the driver of the Kombi, Thabo Modikwane, and his passenger, had died. It has now transpired that there were in fact two passengers, not one as previously thought. The father of the twins, Dexter, claims he has received information that the driver survived and is currently in the Helen Joseph Hospital. He remains unsure about the status of the two passengers.

Thusfar, neither the Florida Police nor the Metro Police have been able to shed any light on the issue.
The Record has had sight of the accident report and according to it, “drug/ liquor use (is) suspected” but the “no” box relating to “liquor/drug use: evidentiary tested” has been ticked on the form. The Record asked Metro spokesperson Wayne Minnaar what this meant and what the implications of this were. He explained that the driver of the Kombi was not tested because there was no doctor on the scene or in the ambulance. “When a patient gets to the hospital and gets treated immediately, whatever medicine is administrated would compromise a drug/ alcohol test. Therefore no alcohol test could be done. But a magistrate will take note of the fact that the accident report stated that there is a suspicion of alcohol use,” he said.

The Record has, for the second time, requested the Florida Police to answer the following questions:
• Did the occupants of the Kombi survive?
• Was the CCTV footage submitted as evidence?
• What is the current status of the investigation?
