Roslynn Greeff promises to redevelop Sparrow Rainbow Village

Roslyn studied dramatic art in Pretoria and became actively involved in politics in the 1980s, when she joined the activities of the End Conscription Campaign. She was the founding member of the Roodepoort branch of the African National Congress in 1994, and was also appointed as the secretary in 1999.

She undertook internship studies in local government in Camden, London, where she learned about infrastructure development, services and transformation, among other things.

Through her work in the City of Johannesburg, she played an important role in obtaining the land where Sparrow Village is presently situated.

Some of her political achievements include:

• Elected as an executive member of the Western Metropolitan Local Council (WMLC) in 1994 and served until 2000 (as the only woman), where she chaired the housing committee and later the human resources development and corporate service portfolio committees.

• In 1999 she was assigned to the committee of 15 that drove the overall transformation strategy of the CoJ council.

• In 2000 she was appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of the Development and Planning, Transport and Environment committee, and she was also the chairperson of the Cosmo City Project.

• In 2007 she was appointed as the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Development and Planning as well as the political head that was responsible for driving and ensuring the inner city regeneration.

• She did not only support Sparrow Rainbow Village, but her work in CoJ Region C included serving on the Roodepoort ProMusica Theatre Board (1994–2002) as well as supporting the Roodepoort Welfare Society.

After a much-needed break, she said that she is very excited to be joining Sparrow Ministries as CEO and is looking forward to the challenge of developing the incredible village that was founded by Corinne McClintock in 1992.

She concluded by saying, “Like all charities, Sparrow Rainbow Village has been hit hard by the economic climate and needs resources to sustain the important work being done here.

We will be working diligently to ensure that the village provides shelter and a Hospice is developed further and sustained in the coming years with many more innovative and caring services.”
