Four-way stop implemented on Jim Fouché Road

Motorists can expect delays due to a temporary four-way stop on Jim Fouché Road

Site technician Diogo Borges has confirmed that the long-awaited temporary four-way stop at the junction of Jim Fouché Road, Constantia Drive and Wilhelmina Avenue has been implemented.

Advance warning signs and temporary stop signs were meant to be implemented on Jim Fouché Road on 20 June, creating a four-way stop at the intersection with the permanent stop signs from Wilhelmina Avenue and Constantia Drive. However the implementation was delayed.

Delta BEC resident engineer on the project, Joseph Mathebula, said the four-way stop would calm the traffic in the area approaching the roadworks and help to avoid accidents. He added that motorists travelling on Jim Fouché Road would be used to having the right of way at this intersection, but now they will have to be cautious and expect delays.

Borges has said the temporary four-way stop is now in place after construction recently resumed on site. Construction was stopped for a while after two vehicles collided at the intersection and an investigation was under way.

The ongoing project is to expand Wilhelmina Avenue and implement sub-soil drainage systems on the road. The project will eventually carry over to Constantia Drive. When the project is completed, Mathebula said permanent traffic signals would be installed at the intersection.
