Ward 97 has elected a new branch committee, which will provide relief to the ward councillor.
The committee comprises a variety of positions that look to further the political party’s influence in the community. Since it is Women’s Month, one of the committee’s first projects will be a campaign to create awareness about sexual offences.
Ward 97 councillor and MMC for Economic Development, Leah Knott, said the committee is a strong group that will be able to lead itself and function without much guidance. It will take a weight off Knott as she balances her commitments as ward councillor and MMC.
The team:
Branch Chair: Sylvester Moepya
Vice Chair: Keith Bateman
Secretary: Tebelo Kokoropo
Membership: Pinki Moholeng
Youth: Katlego Peterson
Dawn (Democratic Alliance Women’s Network): Kholisa Mshudulu
A new committee is elected approximately every 18 months. According to Knott, every ward in the city was asked to hold an AGM and re-elect their branch committee again by the middle of August as there was an issue with processing the membership administration when the committees were first elected earlier in the year.
