National Soft Ice Cream Day

Enjoy a soft serve ice cream on #NationalSoftIceCreamDay

National Soft Ice Cream Day is annually observed on 19 August, and is a day created especially for all the ice cream lover’s out there, who would never say no to an ice cream – no matter what the weather.

Soft ice cream was discovered after air was introduced in the freezing process, and has been around since the 1930s. It was discovered by Tom Carvel on Memorial Day in 1934, when his ice cream truck had a flat tyre while in New York.

He pulled his truck into a parking lot and started selling the softened ice cream to passing vacationers and, after seeing the love people had for this treat, he decided to open a business selling this new-found dessert from a fixed location.

In 1936 he opened his first store on the site where his truck had originally broken down. There he sold his secret formula soft serve ice cream, dispensed from his patented super low temperature ice cream machines.

Celebrate National Soft Ice Cream Day by going out for some soft serve ice cream with your friends and family. Be adventurous and try different flavours and combinations, or add a chocolate Flake to your vanilla ice cream.
