National Bad Poetry Day

Create some really bad verses on #NationalBadPoetryDay

On 18 August, the letters of the alphabet will rise to the occasion and join in the celebration of National Bad Poetry Day.

Poetry is defined as any literary work, written or spoken, which is composed in metrical form and the omnipresence of poetry is well known.

Whether it is a a lame limerick, a haiku or an ode, you want to read or recite it – even if you are unable to define the meaning of it. The purpose of this day is to create some really bad verse. Why? Simply because you can.

National Bad Poetry Day was created by Ruth and Tom Roy who have a website called wellcat.com. On this website, they have published more than 70 copyrighted holidays for everyone to observe.

Celebrate today by turning your deepest thoughts and images into some really bad poetry. Gather some friends and arrange a reading of these bad poems. If you are really brave, send your badly written poems to your old high school teacher.

Post on social media using #NationalBadPoetryDay.
