The Maragon Private Schools Chess team qualified to compete at the Gauteng trials. The High School players have been impressive this year with their top results.

Sheldon Naicker, Hudson McCallum, Robin Francis, Brandon Harlies, Christopher Lefebvre, Kgotso Fihla and Keagan Helfrich qualified for the provincial trials when they participated in the U/18 Roodepoort team trials earlier this month.

They were undefeated over the five rounds, competing against Princess Secondary School, Hoërskool Florida, Trinityhouse Little Falls as well as a boys and a girls team from La Salle College.

The Maragon players clinched the title of Roodepoort U/18 team winners and were included in the D12 team, which will be participating in the Gauteng trials in Pretoria on 9 September.
