VIN number stripped out in recovered vehicle

It is unclear whether the vehicle was being kept by the culprits in order to be transported across the border.

A black Nissan Navara, missing its VIN number, was recovered during the weekend in Weltevreden Park.

Local security and police were tipped-off about this vehicle which was hidden in a storage facility on the corner of JG Strydom and Springhaas Roads.

A security officer from BCI Security, Rudi Holtzhausen, said the vehicle was found at about 2pm on Sunday, 13 August, in a container behind an area which used to be a prominent car dealership.

“The guards allowed us in after we received a tip-off from a member of the public . The VIN number and tracking number of the vehicle had been stripped out,” Holtzhausen said.
