Animal shelter in dire staits

Animal shelter in need of rescue

“We have an SOS – Critical situation in regards to our rescued Huskies and Husky crosses.”

These are the sentiments expressed by Nordic Rescue SA founder, Elke du Bruyn, after the property they use to shelter the dogs was sold.

Nordic Rescue SA NPC is a non-profit rescue organisation that currently shelters 25 rescued Huskies and Husky crosses. They rescue abused, abandoned and unwanted Huskies, and assist lost and found Huskies.

This is what Miya Maya looks like after rehabilitation.

The shelter takes the Huskies in, assesses them, rehabilitates them and finds new homes for them. Each one of the rescues is de-wormed, vaccinated, sterilised and micro-chipped.

“We have to remove our 25 Huskies from our current facility by the end of August, as the property has been sold. We are now in dire straits as we have nowhere to keep our fur kids safe. Putting them into kennels will cost us too much and because we rely on donations, we would never be able to cope with the payments. We therefore need to find foster homes for our fur kids. Knowledge of the breed is imperative, and fostering agreements will have to be signed and home inspections done. Alternatively, we need a new property were we can build our rescue kennels. Sadly, time is not on our side – our rescues need the help of the kind and good-hearted Samaritans out there in the community,’ said Elke.

For more information, people are welcome to contact Elke via email to elke@nordicrescue.co.za.

Donations are also welcome and can be paid into their bank account. These will assist with the cost of building new kennels once a new property has been identified.
