Almond trees were captured in bloom by a resident in Weltevreden Park.

Almonds are native to the Middle East and North Africa. The almond is a deciduous (sheds its leaves annually) tree, which grows between 4 and 10 metres high, with a trunk of up to 30cm in diameter. The young twigs are green at first, becoming purplish when exposed to sunlight, then grey in their second year. The flowers are white to pale pink, produced singly or in pairs and appear before the leaves in early spring.
