Science and tech whizzes represent Panorama in Olympiad
Local learners tested their knowledge at a recent Natural Science and Technology Olympiad.
Two Panorama Primary School Grade 5 learners excelled in the recent Natural Sciences and Technology Olympiad.
The learners both made it to the third level, which is quite an accomplishment as only five learners from the Johannesburg West District get to participate at this level.
The first round of the Olympiad saw more than 6 000 learners participate for a chance to move on to the next round. Out of those 6 000 learners, 70 were selected, of which only the five top pupils continue. Kaylisha Soomar and Mangi Maseko have done their school and their natural science teacher, Carol Moore, proud.
Both learners wrote the ‘exam’ and Kaylisha Soomar was selected as one of the top three to go through to the provincial level.
The three semi-finalists are Kaylisha, Chuma Jara (Laerskool Die Ruiter) and Minah Elgoni (Constantia Kloof Primary). These three learners will meet at the Sci Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown on 5 August to compete in the next level. The winner will then proceed to the national competition.
