Different versions of shooting in Witpoortjie surface

One suspect left scene despite being told not to.

Various residents took to Facebook with different versions of what transpired early yesterday evening (31 July) after multiple gunshots were heard.

Allegations are that a Golf pulled up next to four young men in Piet Meyer Street and an argument ensued. (It is alleged that the four young men were inebriated.) Suddenly one of the occupants of the Golf fired four shots. The four men allegedly took the gun from him, also fired four shots and assaulted the man in the Golf. (It is alleged that one of the occupants was hit and rushed to hospital.)

In other versions more than eight shots were fired. The shooter allegedly fled but residents apprehended the driver. He allegedly told the CPF that he was a police officer. The CPF ordered him not to leave the scene, which he ignored and went to hospital, leaving his vehicle and firearm behind. Regardless of the fact that it was a crime scene, his brother allegedly came and removed the vehicle and the firearm.

Allegations have also been made that the incident is being “covered up”.

The Record can confirm NONE of the versions, only that there was an altercation and that shots were fired. The Record is currently waiting for official comment from the Krugersdorp Police.
