The King’s School West Rand learns from local business

Hirsch's Strubens Valley teaches the Grade 10 learners of The King's School West Rand a thing or two about business.

Hirsch’s Strubens Valley recently hosted Grade 10 learners from The King’s School West Rand for a Careers Day as part of their business curriculum.

Learners, accompanied by Business Studies and Life Orientation teacher, Garth Cruz, were given an informative background of the company. They heard how founders Allan and Margaret Hirsch started the business from their garage at home in 1979 – fixing appliances and teaching people how to operate them – until they were able to open their first store. Hirsch’s now has 14 branches countrywide and four Samsung concept stores under its wing.

The learners were then divided into groups and given a tour of each department in the store to learn how the company operates. Staff from Samsung Clearwater, one of Hirsch’s concept stores, gave the learners a demo of their cellphones, tablets and gadgets.

The morning ended with a fun game for which the learners were divided into groups again. Each group was given a turn to ‘search and find’ a specific item from the shop floor. The first one to bring the item went into the next round and from there the first three winners were awarded with a Hirsch’s gift voucher.
