National Lipstick Day

Pucker up those lips and paint them with your favourite colour lipstick on #NationalLipstickDay

29 July marks the annual observation of National Lipstick Day, the perfect opportunity to celebrate all kinds of lipstick, whether sheer and light, or dark and bright.

Controversy has surrounded lipstick throughout the ages, and in 1770 the British Parliament banned it. They called it a devilish attempt to trick men into marriage, and it was even likened to witchcraft. Lipstick has also been known to contain poisonous materials.

It has been said that Sarah Bernhardt created a scandal by applying lip rouge in public, and Queen Victoria considered wearing lipstick impolite. But Winston Churchill, by contrast, thought it was an excellent morale booster during World War II. It is also said that George Washington was a lipstick wearer.

Previously, annual celebrations of National Lipstick Day occurred with no declaration. However, beauty blogger, entrepreneur, and international businesswoman, Huda Kattan was named the modern-day founder of National Lipstick Day by a proclamation from the National Day Calender’s Registrar in 2016.

Lipstick can change with moods or the scenery and if you need a little boost to your attitude, just punctuate it with your lipstick! Celebrate today by flaunting your favourite colour lipstick, pucker up and share your photos on social media using #NationalLipstickDay. You can also follow Huda’s Instagram page for expert beauty tips.
