Maragon cleans up the neighbourhood

Maragon Ruimsig High School learners pick up litter in and around their school.

Maragon Ruimsig High School learners and staff returned to school and started the third term by channelling the Madiba spirit into a community clean-up.

The learners gave of their time to improve the area in and around their school, learning how to be better citizens by caring the environment. With black bags in hand, they walked around the neighbourhood, picking up litter on Tuesday, 25 July.

The clean-up was organised by head of department of service and leadership, Michéll Corrans. “I am really proud of all our learners. They did an incredible job cleaning up in and around the community. We can be grateful that this generation is aware of the environment and eager to contribute towards its improvement,” said Michéll.

Maragon’s other environmental-related initiatives include growing their own veggie garden to benefit the school’s grounds staff. They are also actively involved in an owl rehabilitation centre, where learners volunteer at least twice a month.
