National Scotch Day

Scotch whisky consists of five distinct categories, namely single malt, single grain, blended malt, blended grain and blended Scotch.

27 July is National Scotch Day, a day created to recognise an aged whisky distilled from malted barley.

The first – and most important – requirement for Scotch to be called Scotch, is that is should be made in Scotland. It must be fermented from malted barley, aged in oak barrels for at least three years and have an Alcohol By Volume (ABV) of less than 94,8 per cent.

As per law, Scotch can be made with barley, water and yeast, with other grains included, but no fermentation additives can be included. Scotch whisky consists of five distinct categories, namely single malt, single grain, blended malt, blended grain and blended Scotch.

Celebrate today by enjoying some Scotch with your friends, but remember to always drink responsibly and never to drink and drive.
