No injuries after Newlands accident

Man escapes injury after crashing into restaurant

No injuries were reported after a light motor vehicle crashed into a restaurant in Long Street, Newlands on 22 July.

ER24 paramedics, along with other emergency services, were called to the scene. “Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics found the vehicle on the sidewalk, against the wall. Several people were walking around on the scene,” said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson.

According to Meiring, paramedics assessed the bystanders, which included a pregnant woman, and it was determined that no-one had sustained any injuries. The driver of the vehicle was also assessed, and it was found that he had escaped injury.

“It is understood that the driver had lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer off the road, crashing first into a fence and then the restaurant,” Meiring said.

Local authorities were on scene conducting further investigations into the incident.
