Tasty tea party for worthy cause

During the tea party R1 500 was raised and used to purchase goods for a local charity.

What is fun, delicious and rewarding at the same time?

Hosting a tea party for charity of course … and that is exactly what Liza Viljoen from Fondant Fun did.

Liza recently hosted a scrumptious tea party at her home in Weltevreden Park for her close friends and preferred customers, all in aid of the local organisation, Charity begins with Me, which was started by Stephan Ferreira.

“I have always been involved in charity work but it was only after I was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013 that I decided to really get my hands dirty.

The idea of death did not scare me, but I knew I wanted to leave behind something worth remembering before I officially kicked the bucket. This is my platform to do so,” Stephan said on Facebook.

Because Stephan’s organisation is not registered, they do not work with money. Each month they select a big project or two and then collect various items they can use to make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most.

Liza left her cozy corporate job eight months ago to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time baker. She is well-known in the community for baking all sorts of fluffy treats and always has time – and cupcakes – ready for a worthy cause.

She is also very involved with Cupcakes for Cancer, but recently decided to get more involved with Stephan’s organisation.

During the tea party, Liza raised R1 500, which she used to purchase goods for one of Stephan’s outreaches. Liza purchased items such as juice, vienna sausages, brown paper bags and treats and recently handed her purchases over to Stephan.

Stephan responded by saying, “A very special thank you to Liza for hosting a morning tea to benefit Charity Begins With Me. We received some wonderful goodies. Thanks for all the hard work, Liza, and also to your husband, Jannie, for helping behind the scenes. You guys are amazing!”
