Swift action leads to Mercedes-Benz recovery

Tracker service responds with swift action to hijacking ordeal.

The white Mercedes-Benz that was hijacked at the Sasol service station at the corner of Christiaan de Wet Road and Wilhelmina Avenue near Clearwater Mall on 19 July has been recovered.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan confirmed the recovery today, 21 July, indicating that the vehicle was found in Kagiso, west of Johannesburg, a few hours after the hijacking ordeal.

“I can confirm that the vehicle was recovered on the same day in Kagiso after the complainant contacted his service provider to track it,” Muthan said. Muthan added that a case of hijacking was being investigated by Honeydew Police.

CCTV footage of the hijacking scene made rounds yesterday. The footage shows the vehicle driver being held at gunpoint by men wearing black balaclavas who had exited from a black Audi. In disbelief the man watches his car being driven away after being forced from it.

He also cautioned motorists to be extra vigilant when stopping at intersections and services stations. “Always be extra observant wherever you are parked, especially at intersections and garages. Make sure that your doors and windows are locked at all times,” Muthan pleaded.
