Companies come together to help those in need

The Mandela spirit shone through

Four different Non-profit Organisations were surprised with donations of much-needed items in the spirit of Mandela Day.

As part of their Mandela Day initiative, a number of companies based in and around the Roodepoort area partnered to give back to those less fortunate.

KDM Reject Car Club of South Africa; Loving Child Montessori in Weltevreden Park; Hyundai Woodmead; Motorheads South Africa; Modevo Marketing, and Battery Distributors Gauteng came together and identified four organisations in desperate need of help.

The charities identified to benefit are Morning Sunshine for Kidz in Randburg; Faebles Day Care in Weltevreden Park; Happy Yappers Animal Sanctuary in Tarlton, and The 9th Day Rescue Animal Shelter in Krugersdorp.

“These organisations rely on donations to continue operating, as they do not receive any government grants at all,” said Felicity Purdon from Battery Distributors.

She added that they wanted to do something different, and came up with a unique concept. “We aimed to have 67 cars deliver 67 items from each organisation’s wish list to them, and asked the community to help us with this initiative by either donating items or cash. We also had a charity car show at Hyundai Woodmead, and with the money we collected there, we were able to make today possible,” said a grateful Felicity. She also thanked Dowry Security for their support, security, vehicles, banners and gazebo.

Each car’s boot was filled with donated items.

The representatives of each organisation were left speechless when the convoy of cars arrived at Battery Distributors’ premises, and started unloading the much-needed items.

In between the handover of items, the guests, as well as all the drivers in the convoy, were spoilt with delicious cup cakes donated by Nikki Marriott.

Gaynor Lawrence received the donations on behalf of The 9th Day Rescue.

Happy Yappers Animal Sanctuary thanked the sponsors on their Facebook page with a beautiful poster. To see the message, click here
