Much-needed repairs at Recreation Centre to go ahead

Ward councillor fulfills promise

The councillor for Ward 71, René Benjamin, has kept her promise to Witpoortjie residents – the recreation centre will be undergoing much-needed repairs soon.

At a meeting held earlier this year with many of the tenants who use the hall for a variety of activities, it was decided that the centre is in desperate need of essential repairs to prevent it from becoming a white elephant.

The light fixtures will also be repaired.

“The project team is in the final stages of planning, and repairs to the centre will commence soon,” a happy René said.

She added that the repairs that will done include the following:

• The small and large halls will be upgraded

• The kitchen and entrance hall will receive a well deserved make-over

• The roof will be repaired and waterproofed and the damaged fascia boards will also be replaced

• The electricity and DB board will be upgraded

• The security guard house will be replaced

• The fencing inside the property, as well as the entrance gate and perimeter fencing will be repaired

• The male and female bathrooms will be upgraded, including the floors, doors, and basins and they will be painted

“I am pleased that the recreation centre is finally receiving a long overdue face-lift. The centre has been the home of the Vikings Amateur Boxing Club for many years and is also used for wrestling, aerobic classes, martial arts, badminton and various functions and meetings. It has always been a popular venue, and I believe it will be returned to its former glory after the repairs are completed,” she concluded.
