National Fudge Day

When it comes to flavours, fudge lends itself to experimentation, as blending favourites

16 June is the annual celebration of National Fudge Day, a food holiday allowing you to indulge in your favourite flavour of this delicious confectionery.

Some of the most familiar fudge flavours are the original caramel, chocolate, chocolate nut, peanut butter, maple and maple nut.

When it comes to flavours, fudge lends itself to experimentation, as blending favourites – or even a moment of inspiration – will create a delicious new kind of fudge. Adding bits of candy, nuts or sprinkles can add just the right celebratory burst of excitement to an old favourite.

There are three other fudge holidays on the calendar as well – 12 May, that celebrates all the nutty fudges; 22 July, celebrating National Penuche Fudge Day and 20 November that celebrates National Peanut Butter Fudge Day.

Some shops on the Mackinac Island in Michigan began making products similar to the Vassar College fudge in the late 19th century, and sold it to summer vacationers. Fudge is still made in some of the original shops located on the famous island.

To celebrate today, pick up some fudge at your local confectionery store and share it with family and friends. If you feel like making your own fudge, visit https://allrecipes.com/recipe/9368/fudge/ and get cooking!
