Meter reading to start

Customers urged to allow employees access

In an attempt to improve billing accuracy and eliminate estimations, City Power will start meter readings today, 15 June.

“Our employees will be starting in Florida from today, and we request customers to open their gates for them in order to record the correct reading,” said Virgil James, City Power’s spokesperson.

He added that residents should however, still not allow any person claiming to be from City Power to access their properties without checking on them. “Residents should first verify the credentials of any person, technician or contractor that claims to be from City Power. This can be done by phoning our Risk Control Unit on 011 490 7553/7911/7900,” he said.

How to identify an official City Power employee:

• When on duty, all employees are required to wear the official City Power uniform and carry an identity (ID) card with them at all times.

• All ID cards are colour-coded to identify the department the technician is from. For meter audits and maintenance, the colour on the card is turquoise. This card will also display a photo of the technician attending to the specific task, with his/ her staff number and an expiry date.

• A hologram of the City Power logo (a firefly) appears on the card as well. These technicians can also be identified by the City Power vehicle they use.
