Are there child snatchers on the prowl?

Incident has been confirmed not to be a rumour.

The Witpoortjie Warnings Whatsapp group has issued a warning regarding an incident yesterday when someone tried to abduct a girl.

The girl was walking along Java Street on her way to the Engen garage on Corlett Avenue when the incident occurred. Four men in an old silver Mercedes Benz were slowly following the girl. A resident saw what was taking place and thought it suspicious. One man then jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards the girl. The alert resident started screaming and pelting the suspect with stones, which was enough of a deterrent for the man to abandon his attempt.

“”Guys, please, please, please think twice before you send your children to the shops on their own. It really is not safe for them to walk on their own,” wrote Natalie Swart, the administrator of the group.

The registration number of the vehicle concerned starts with the letters YMH.
