Community urged to remain vigilant

Protests calm but community asked to remain vigilant

Calm has descended over the Princess informal settlement since violent protests over houses saw two trucks, an auction house and three Metrobuses set alight.

The protests forced police and JMPD officials to close off Albertina Sisulu Road and South Road. Protesters threatened to not let up on their protest until they met with CoJ mayor, Herman Mashaba. With the mayor not having made an appearance, police feared protests would not come to an end. However, Albertina Sisulu Road has been opened for vehicles and Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the JMPD officials keeping a watch on the protests were not needed as the protests have calmed down.

Police have however cautioned the community to remain vigilant as the protests could flare up again at any moment.
