Princess informal settlement still not safe

Latest on Princess

No violence is expected in the Princess informal settlement this weekend. However, JMPD officers will remained stationed at the corner of Corlett Avenue and Albertina Sisulu Road, as well as at the corner of Albertina Sisulu Road and Wilgespruit Street. Residents have been warned to steer clear of the area as protests could erupt at any moment.

JMPD Superintendent, Wayne Minnaar, said that although it is currently quiet, JMPD officers will remain stationed at both intersections.

“There has been constant protests in the area so we want our officers to react quickly if any situation arises. That is why they will remain stationed there for the rest of the weekend,” he said.

South Road, which has been opened and closed numerous times this week, is another road to avoid as protesters have been known to attack vehicles on that road.
