National Wine Day

Whatever your choice – red, white or rose – raise a glass on #NationalWineDay

25 May is the perfect opportunity to celebrate everything that makes wine great, as it is National Wine Day.

Wine has been a firm favourite of many cultures around the world for centuries and has been used for many different things, including helping creativity, for a religious gathering or just to liven up a gathering. There is no doubt that this fruity alcoholic drink deserves its own day of observance.

It is true that every day has the potential to be a Wine Day, depending on how hard the day at work has been, but for those days where your boss (or colleagues) did not get on your nerves, there’s National Wine Day.

Unlike National Drink Wine Day, which is celebrated in February, today is more about celebrating the beverage itself, rather than the act of drinking it – although that should not stop you from enjoying a glass or two!

Wine has been around for many years, with the oldest evidence of it dating back to 7 000BC China, where many ancient civilisations celebrated the effects of wine and often used it for religious observances.

Today, wine is one of the most widely produced and consumed drinks in the world. Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Syrah – there are so many types to choose from. It’s not just grapes that fill up the bottles, you can also get hold of fruit, flower and even vegetable wines!

To celebrate today is very easy – just pour yourself and your friends a glass or two! Keep it simple with a few glasses at the pub or push the boat out and invite friends and family over for a meal with the perfectly paired wine for each course. The internet can help you to choose the perfect wine for the dish, making you look like an expert!

So, whatever your favourite is – white, red or rosé – raise a glass today and use #NationalWineDay to post on social media.

Remember, enjoy responsibly!
