Princess informal settlement update: Trucks removed but road still closed

Albertina Sisulu Road still not open

The two trucks on Albertina Sisulu Road that were set alight and looted during protest action have been towed away under heavy police guard.

This comes after an earlier attempt by tow-truckers to remove the trucks that resulted in protesters, armed with petrol bombs, attacking them. One was seriously injured by a petrol bomb.

It was much calmer today as the trucks were removed under police escort and towed away.

However, this does not mean the road will be reopened. There is still debris on the road, police remain vigilant and JMPD officers are preventing motorists from using the road.

Although the road has been closed, Gas for Africa has braved the danger and is one of the few remaining and operational businesses on the street.
